Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A police complaint has been filed against TMC MP and actor Rachna Banerjee at Charu Market Police Station over a social media post related to the RG Kar case. The complainant has alleged that Banerjee publicly mentioned the victim’s name in a Facebook post following the incident and has sought legal action in the matter.
According to the complaint, the Facebook post allegedly referred to the victim by name and subsequently circulated widely on social media. The complainant, a lawyer, has argued that disclosing the identity of a victim in such a case was unlawful and warranted action by the authorities.
The lawyer stated that he had previously submitted a written complaint regarding the matter to the then Kolkata Police Commissioner in 2024. He alleged that no action was taken on the complaint at the time and has now filed a fresh written complaint seeking further legal proceedings against the MP.
The complainant also claimed that the social media content remains accessible on various online platforms and questioned why a public representative would allegedly disclose information that is generally protected under law. Police have accepted the complaint, and the complainant has reportedly requested registration of an FIR while also discussing the matter with police officials.
